Eine rachsüchtige künstliche Intelligenz – Rokos Basilisk, eine in Online-Foren heraufbeschworene Figur – bildet den Einstieg in Ana Teixeira Pintos Analyse eines psychologischen Zustands, der durch Online-Interaktionen begünstigt wird und zu scheinbar widersprüchlichen Haltungen geführt hat: völlig paranoid und zugleich vollkommen distanziert. Gefühle der Entmündigung, gekoppelt an die empfundene Allmacht, die das Internet zu verleihen scheint, haben in apokalyptischen Fantasien eine symbolische Form gefunden. Diese Verblendungen sind von quasi magischer und hyperstitioneller Beschaffenheit und zu einer Ideologie verschmolzen, die ebenso religiös wie logisch erscheint, trotz des Beharrens ihrer Anhängerschaft auf dem Primat der deduktiven Vernunft. Mit einer Reihe von Double Binds konfrontiert, werden einige Bevölkerungsteile schließlich in Reaktion auf ihre eigene Machtlosigkeit „Gewalt und Soziopathie“ befürworten, trotz des Versprechens der ungebundenen individuellen Macht im Informationszeitalter.
